Misiria beach
Misiria, a tourist resort, is actually a suburb of Rethymnon, a short distance from the city center, just 3 km east and on the long sandy beach of Rethymnon.
It has taverns, cafes and bars for food and drink. Of course, due to the short distance it is very easy to fly to the center of Rethymnon where it has more suggestions for food, drink and entertainment.
Access from Rethymnon is very easy with regular and frequent bus routes, by taxi and by rented or private cars and motorcycles.
Like in all parts of the long beachfront, loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) lay their eggs here. The turtles are threatened with extinction, but the Rethymno Gulf is one of the three most important places for the species in Greece, bearing annually more than 400 nests in average.
