Akoumianos River
Akoumianos river is the third larger river (in water quantity) in the province of Agios Vasilios (after Megas and Platys River). It gets its water from dozens of sources from the slopes of the mountains Kedros and Asiderotas and has water all year round, especially in its upper part.
In some places it creates some of the largest and most beautiful waterfalls in Crete with a height up to 100 meters (Gre Daphnis waterfalls). At the end of its journey the bed softens and shapes a wonderful wetland with shrubs, ponds and reed next to the beach of Stomio at Akoumiani Gialia.
The beautiful and quiet beach is the westernmost beach of Agios Pavlos, well known for the largest sandhills in Crete. In the Cretan dialect, the word Stomio means River mouth. The beach is ideal for camping and requires just 5 minutes walking.
