Rechtara Waterfall, Platanes - Rethymno - Crete

11 km from the village of Saktouria and 35 km from Rethymno there is the waterfall Rechtara in Platane.
At the south slopes of Kedros mount, at position Rechtres and over the village Platanes , there is the wild and dangerous gorge of Platanes. Its most length is open, but descend requires canyoning equipment.

Most of the year time, the gorge has large quantities of water and is one of the main springs of Akoumianos River. There is 45’ minute trekking trail starting from Platanes and reaching the base of the imposing Recthara waterfall.

It consists of two 35m high waterfalls (70 overall) and the first one can be accessed by climbing. There are about 15 waterfalls in the lower parts of the gorge, all accessible on foot. At the position of Rechtara waterfall there is a cave where Minoan worship findings have been identified.
